What is counselling?

Counselling is about listening to you and giving you the opportunity of working with a trained counsellor. You may have a particular problem that you would like to talk about or a general feeling that life could be better. Counselling provides a supportive, professional relationship that allows you to explore the difficulties that are affecting your capacity to lead a fulfilling life and to find the best choices for you.

What type of problem?
Anything that is holding you back. It could be depression, trouble at work, in the family, in relationships. It could be feelings caused by losing someone close, or having a baby, or breaking up. It could be abuse, or other causes of low self-esteem. Sometimes it is hard to pinpoint exactly what it is that is making you feel unhappy. Your counsellor will help you to do that.

How does it help?
Counselling gives you a safe space to talk in confidence on a one-to-one basis with your personal counsellor. You won't be judged or told what to do. You'll decide what you want to do to make your life better.
