Information about our pricing

At Riverside Counselling Service, we’re committed to making high-quality counselling as accessible and affordable as possible. As a registered charity (No. 1018853), we work hard to ensure that cost is not a barrier to accessing support.

We don’t receive NHS funding, so our work is funded through grants from charitable trusts, donations, fundraising, and the fees we charge clients. This helps us to offer counselling at a reduced cost to those who need it.

Initial registration and Consultation fee

The fee for your initial consultation and registration is £55 for individual counselling.

This fee should be paid within three days of being offered a consultation date.

Ongoing Counselling fees

The cost of ongoing counselling is discussed with you during your initial consultation. Fees are calculated according to your household income and are designed to be as fair and manageable as possible.

Gross Household Income Fee
£15,000 and under £10 per week
Over £15,000 £1.00 for each £1,000 of income e.g. if your gross household income is £33,000, the fee will be £33 per week.

Please speak to us if the suggested cost of counselling will be difficult as there may be support we can offer.

Riverside Hardship Fund

We believe cost should never be a barrier to accessing counselling.

Our Riverside Hardship Fund helps make counselling affordable for everyone, but if you’re unable to afford our minimum fee, we will aim to find a manageable amount, depending on the available funds.

How to pay

For your initial consultation, you will be sent a payment link for you to make a secure payment online. There is no need to download an app or create an account.

Payment for ongoing sessions will be discussed with and arranged directly by your counsellor.

Missed or cancelled sessions

Because your session time is reserved just for you each week, we ask that you pay for missed sessions unless:

  • The session is cancelled by your counsellor
  • There are exceptional circumstances (which can be discussed with your counsellor)
  • See here for more information on missed or cancelled sessions
